Dr. Marinis Monthly Memo- November 2019

Writer: Rachel GriffithRachel Griffith

It is a great day to be a part of the Calvert Seneca family.

We are very grateful for the success of the annual Calvert Autumn Auction held last Saturday evening. This year’s theme was “A Night Under The Stars” and was attended by over 250 guests. They all enjoyed appetizers by Robbin Ewald and a delicious dinner provided by Carmie’s. The meal followed with many opportunities to bid on gifts donated by generous community businesses and individuals. On behalf of the entire Seneca family, THANK YOU.

Calvert students celebrated the opportunity last month to use the ambo and altar from St. Wendelin’s school chapel at our school masses, creating a stronger bond with our Fostoria families. We are blessed to have students from many of our area parishes attend CCS. With a mission statement “One Family Committed to Christ,” CCS welcomes all students who want an education infused with faith.

A group of students from our Biology and Chemistry classes traveled to The University of Toledo’s College of Medicine for onsite experiential learning. Students learned about embalming procedures, human dissection, and how the Plastination process better preserves human organs for study. This experience brings life to future career opportunities ahead for them.

The 8th graders “Calvert Career Connection” program brings together professionals and students for career discussion. The recent luncheon guest was the Deputy Recorder from Seneca County (Claire Huffman, an Alumni of Calvert). To enrich “Experiential Learning,” students will tour the Recorder’s office in the spring to learn additional information about the history of Seneca County.

The Service Encompassing All (SEA) Program has our students involved with various organizations. Examples include corresponding with area senior citizens, painting windows for the residents of Autumnwood, and students decorating coffee sleeves for Bailiwick’s, to spread the message of kindness in our community.

We have been welcoming students who have shadowed or visited our school for a day. If you would like to learn more about Calvert’s transformative educational experience, we invite you to contact us (rgriffith@calvertcatholic.org) for more information.
