Great things are happening for the families, friends and supporters of Calvert Catholic Schools. We invite everyone to join us this weekend as we celebrate Alumni Weekend. Alumni members will be welcomed at the Friday night home football game, followed by Open House at the K of C Hall. Saturday night’s event is a Reverse Raffle held at the K of C and doors open at 6:00 p.m. Alumnus Rev. Dan Ring ‘59 will celebrate the 10:00 a.m. Mass in the high school gym on Sunday morning, followed by inductions for the Hall of Fame. The 2019 inductees are Mike Hart ‘59 ~ Msgr. Edward Dunn Service to Others Award, Vic Warnement ‘76 ~ Albert Diringer Professional Achievement Award and Fritz & Sue Smith Family ~ St. Mary and St. Joseph Service to CCS Award. Our congratulations to them.
Calvert will be receiving several chapel items as gifts from the St. Wendelin School chapel. Included are Stations of the Cross, an Altar, an Ambo, and the Tabernacle Stand for the 3rdfloor Calvert chapel. What a blessing to be able to blend our Fostoria families into Calvert in such a meaning way.
The 8thgraders are planning for “Calvert Career Connection” luncheons this year with area business leaders. Their first guest will be funeral home director Eric Shook ‘ 96. This program will help the students learn the skills and training that are needed for future careers.
You may have observed the different construction activities at Calvert and wonder what’s been happening. Thanks to generous support of many businesses and individuals in this community, we have finished the window project on the northwest side, added a wheelchair Accessible Ramp and Chair Lift to the front entry, resurfaced and repaved the entire school parking lot, and replaced the sound system in the gym. A special memorial donation will allow us to improve the athletic field and add a baseball diamond. It’s a great day to be a Seneca in Tiffin.
Our STEAM program has provided interactive discovery opportunities through several experiments led by Mark Zimmerman. Mark has guided the students in exploring properties of water, demonstrating adhesion and surface tension in the latest lesson. This collaboration with public service officials improves students’ ability to understand the necessity of water sustainability as a renewable resource for future city programs.
Calvert’s student leaders met with other area schools at Tiffin University’s Osceola Theatre as part of the Seneca County Youth Leadership Council quarterly meeting. Calvert Principal Ted Willman has secured Coach Mike Jarvis to assist the student groups. They are using Jarvis’ Skills forLifetextbook and workbook to develop better leadership and communication skills to enhance their school culture and the local community.
As you can see, great things are going on for the students and families of Calvert. We just completed the annual Patron Drive and I send my personal thanks to all of you who supported our students’ efforts for CCS. May our community be blessed for their continued good will and support they display to Calvert Catholic Schools!
