From the Desk of Dr. Jeremy Marinis
May 2026
This time of year always feels a little different. You can sense it when you walk through the building. There is a lot of excitement: end-of-year events, warmer days, the culmination of everything students have been working toward, but there is also this quiet awareness that something important is wrapping up.
Over the past couple of weeks, I have spent time listening and observing our seniors about Calvert. Listening to them reflect has been one of the best parts of this season for me. What stood out was not that their stories were the same; they weren’t. Some of them have been here since they were very young. Others joined us later, whether in middle school, high school, or somewhere in between. Different starting points, different paths. But almost without fail, they all said the same thing… this place became their family.
And that’s hard to explain unless you’ve experienced it. It’s not one big moment that creates that feeling. It’s a lot of small ones over time. It’s being known by your teachers. It’s teammates and classmates who become lifelong friends. It’s the way people show up for each other here. It’s faith being part of everyday life, not something separate from it. At some point, whether you started here in kindergarten or walked in later on, it just starts to feel like you belong.
To our seniors, this is your time. We are excited for you, but it is also hard to see you go. You are ready, and that is the part that matters. You are leaving with more than you learned in class; you are leaving with perspective, values, and relationships that have molded you. Seniors, remember, you are not leaving this place behind; you take it with you. You will always have a home here.
As we finish out the school year, I keep coming back to one word: grateful. Grateful for our students and the energy they bring every day. Grateful for our families who trust us with their children. Grateful for our teachers and staff who care deeply about what they do and who they’re doing it for. That’s what makes this place what it is. It’s not something you can fully capture in a sentence or even a memo, but if you have been here, you know it.
Thank you for taking part. And to the Class of 2026, we are proud of you.
